Financial Services

Business Office:
Business Office staff are available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to assist you with billing, insurance, Medicare and Maine Care payments, and resident trust account services.

Billing:
Private Pay: Bills are sent to self-pay residents at the beginning of each month.

Maine Care:
Residents whose stay is covered by the Maine Care program will receive a bill from Lakewood showing "cost of care" as stated on the assessment letter you should have received from the State of Maine Department of Health and Human Services outlining the amount to pay Lakewood each month (known as the "cost of care"). You will receive an assessment letter when you initially qualify for Maine Care and only when the cost of care changes thereafter. Pleased remember to notify DHHS of any income changes.

Medicare:
For Medicare covered residents, Lakewood will bill any co-payments of deductibles to your supplemental insurance company. If no supplemental insurance is identified upon admission you will be billed the balance.

Insurance:
Lakewood will assist you in obtaining pre-authorization if required and will bill insurance carriers directly. Lakewood performs this service as a courtesy to you and makes no representation or guarantee with regard to the type or amount of coverage. You are responsible for any amount not covered by your insurance plan.

Payment for Services:
Payment for self-pay residents is due on the first of the month. The cost of care for Maine Care covered residents is due by the tenth of each month. All other payments, including co-payments and deductibles for Medicare covered residents and any amounts not covered by other third party insurance plans, are due upon receipt of our invoice.

Personal Funds (Resident Trust Account):
Lakewood will hold, safeguard, manage, and account for personal funds that you choose to deposit with the facility. Your personal funds are maintained in a separate Resident Trust Account at a local bank and bear interest at the going rate. You will receive quarterly statements of account activity. A receptionist is available to assist you with resident trust withdrawals Monday through Friday 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. an weekends 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Note: Upon discharge, Lakewood will deduct from the balance of your account sums owed to us which are not payable under a third party payer program, refunding any remaining balance within 30 days.

Refunds:
Refunds are issued within thirty days after all incurred charges have been paid.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart...
